The course will enable you to learn and harness the latest infocomm technologies involving Internet computing, smart phones, SMS/MMS, and other core technologies required for e-commerce or m-commerce. You will be well-positioned and prepared for a challenging and rewarding career in the fields of IT, telecommunications or info-communications.

The most up-to-date training facilities and teaching materials supported by key industry players are the hallmarks of this course. As there are many business opportunities in the infocomm market for new services and applications, the course also incorporates business skills as well as the know-how of being a technopreneur. You will have opportunities to work on industry-collaboration projects that will make your learning more challenging and practice-oriented.

To be further prepared for the infocomm industry, final-year students will choose one of two Elective Clusters, namely: Wireless Technology or Computer Game Programming & Web Services.

Career Opportunities

The phenomenal growth of the infocomm industry has created a strong demand for infocomm professionals in Singapore. By the year 2010, Singapore will be transformed into a dynamic and vibrant information and communications technologies centre with a thriving knowledge-based economy. The fast growing infocomm industry, with its new applications, services and products, requires a great deal of integration of IT and telecommunication technologies. With further market liberalisation by IDA and new technological advancements such as 3G phones with video-on-demand, high-speed wireless Internet access, and PDAs with built-in Bluetooth, GPS and wireless Internet capabilities, exciting new applications and services in the infocomm industry are set to flourish.

Info-communications will continue to be a high growth sector as well as a key driver of the manufacturing, commerce and trading sectors. The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore has projected that the demand for infocomm professionals will escalate sharply to 250,000 over the next decade. As a graduate from this course, you can therefore look forward to many excellent job opportunities, such as an e-services solution developer, wireless Internet service developer, network system engineer, IT security specialist, multimedia system engineer, web services specialist or even computer gaming developer.
