Diploma in Tourism & Resort Management (TRM)

(3-year course) *new course*

Introduction
The Diploma in Tourism & Resort Management (TRM) prepares students to function competently and effectively in the key sectors of the tourism industry such as travel, tour operations, destination marketing, hospitality and resort, attractions, Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Events (MICE), food and beverage, and tourism-related retail.

It equips students with the appropriate service attitude as well as relevant skills and knowledge, giving them a strong business foundation with a global and entrepreneurial focus.

Students will learn the reservation and air-ticketing systems commonly used in the industry. Besides gaining an insight into the travel industry, they will also acquire a knowledge of marketing, and management of resort and hospitality properties, food and beverage outlets, as well as retail establishments. Students will also learn how to organise conventions and themed events.

Career Prospects
One of Singapore's goals is to further develop the tourism market. To this end, the government is investing considerably in further developing the nation's tourism infrastructure with mega-projects like the Integrated Resorts and the enhancing of the Marina Bay area.

The fast-growing tourism and resort industry offers many openings in hospitality, food and beverage, travel, conventions and events management, and other tourism-related sectors.

Job opportunities can be found in a wide variety of business management positions in sales and marketing, operations, facility planning and development, promotion and public relations, consultancy and customer service.

Accreditation for Further Studies
Tourism & Resort Management graduates can gain recognition at local and overseas universities.

Entry Requirements
Entry requirements in the GCE “O” Level examinations (or equivalent) are :

Subject “O” Level Grade

English 1–6
Mathematics (Elementary/Additional) 1–6
Any three other subjects excluding CCA 1–6


The aggregate computation for selection is based on grades obtained for English, Mathematics, a Humanities subject (Grade 1-9) and two other subjects (excluding CCA). Humanities subjects include Combined Humanities, Commerce, Commercial Studies, Geography, History, Literature and Principles of Accounts.

Note: Students enrolled in the course will be required to own notebook computers for their studies.

IS Modules
The School of Interdisciplinary Studies (IS) delivers the interdisciplinary curriculum under the Ngee Ann Learning Model (NLM). The NLM was introduced in 2001 to nurture a new generation of professionals with multidisciplinary skills to meet the challenges of a knowledge-based economy. The NLM incorporates core disciplines and Interdisciplinary Studies. It also nurtures innovative and entrepreneurial traits through the Innovation & Enterprise in Action (I & E in Action) module. IS modules challenge boundaries and offer insights into Communication, Entrepreneurship, Life Skills, Media & the Arts, and Science & Technology.
